String Bands - Information wanted

A retired teacher in Chorley is researching with a view to the publication of a popular book on String Bands (particularly, local to Preston and Lancashire generally).  In Higher Walton we had a string band in the village during the time that our star, Kathleen Ferrier, was an infant (she was born here in 1912).  One of the photographs of the string band shows that her parents, William and Alice Ferrier were prominent members.  The researcher would be very grateful to hear about other string bands and I have offered to act as a go-between, so if any members have information which they can share, particularly photographs of string bands, I would be grateful if they would contact me.

Almshouse of Lancashire

I am presently compiling a history and register of the Almshouses of Lancashire (pre 1974 boundaries) and would be grateful of any information fellow members could supply on the subject. I'm particularly interested in location, date of construction, the name of the family who sponsored their construction and upkeep.. in fact, any information at all regarding these historic buildings.  Many thanks.
